The CFM56-3 engine was jointly developed by Snecma Company of France and General Electric Company of the United States. It was first tested in 1974 and put into use in 1979. This engine is famous for its high efficiency, reliability and durability, and is widely used in short and medium-haul civil aviation aircraft and helicopters.
Specifically, CFM56-3B-1 has a thrust of 20,000 lbf(89 kN), a bypass ratio of 6.0, a compression ratio of 27.5, and a net weight of 4,276 pounds (1,940 kg), and is mainly used in Boeing 737-300/500 and other aircraft. On the other hand, CFM56-3B-2 has a slightly higher thrust of 22,000 lbf(98 kN), bypass ratio of 5.9, compression ratio of 28.8 and net weight of 4,301 pounds (1,950 kg).
In addition, CFM56 series engines adopt single-stage, high-load and high-pressure turbines, which are relatively rare in civil Gao Han turbofan engines with two stages. This design simplifies the structure and reduces the number of parts, and only needs to control the first-stage stator and rotor blades.
Generally speaking, CFM56-3 engine has been widely trusted and used by airlines all over the world for its advantages of high efficiency, low emission, low noise and high reliability.
