Airbus A320-100 is the first model of Airbus A320 series aircraft and the prototype of this series aircraft. It left the factory on February 14th, 1987 and made its first flight on February 22nd. This aircraft began mass production in 1988, but the output was relatively small, only 21 aircraft were produced.
The main users of A320-100 include Internet Airways (later merged by Air France) and British Airways. Among them, British Airways A320-100 was ordered by British Golden Lion Airlines before graduation. However, it is worth noting that from the 22nd aircraft, the A320 series aircraft produced by Airbus have been transformed into A320-200 with winglets, and some old A320-100 have also been transformed into special A320-200 models without winglets.
In the course of operation, A320-100 had some accidents. For example, on January 20, 1992, an A320-100 crashed in nearby Montest Odil while waiting to land at Strasbourg International Airport, killing 87 people. In addition, on June 26th, 1988, a brand-new A320-111 passenger plane of Air France Flight 296 had an accident in flight, resulting in the death of three passengers.
Although the output of A320-100 is small and there have been some accidents, as a prototype of A320 series aircraft, it has accumulated valuable experience for Airbus in the development and production of subsequent models. At the same time, it also laid a solid foundation for the success of Airbus A320 series aircraft in the global civil aviation market.
