Airbus A318 is the smallest member of Airbus A320 family, also known as "Mini Airbus". This aircraft was obtained by Airbus on the basis of A319 by shortening 6 meters and lightening 14 tons. A318 has a fuselage length of 31.45m, a wing width of 34.09m, a height of 12.56m and a cabin length of 21.38m.. In the two-class cabin configuration, A318 can carry 107 passengers, while in the single cabin configuration, it can carry 132 passengers.
The maximum takeoff weight of A318 is 68 tons, the maximum cruising speed can reach Mach 0.82, and the maximum range is 6,000 kilometers (3,250 nautical miles). Although the cargo door of A318 is small for standard containers, which makes it difficult to carry large cargo, this aircraft is very suitable for short-haul and low-density routes between medium-sized cities.
The A318 project started in 1999, completed its first flight on January 15th, 2002, and was put into use in July, 2003. The main users of this aircraft include Frontier Airlines, American West Airlines and Air France, etc. They use A318 to serve some routes that A320 can't reach, such as London City Airport.
Generally speaking, Airbus A318, as a 100-seat passenger plane, provides an efficient and economical solution on short and medium-haul routes with its moderate size, flexible cabin configuration and long voyage.
